Gideon SlowMo’s journey into the world of breaking began in 2006, sparked by the explosive dance energy in music videos and iconic street dance films like Stomp the Yard, Step Up, and Dance Flick. But it was Step Up 2: The Streets and the legendary JabbaWockeez that truly opened his eyes to the power of breaking. Their routines introduced him to foundational moves like head spins, six-steps, handstands, and baby freezes—the language of a culture he would soon call his own.

“Breaking taught me to move with purpose. Now I’m building with purpose too.” – Gideon SlowMo

In 2010, pivotal moments like the release of Step Up 3 (featuring Bboy Cloud vs Moose), Chris Brown’s Yeah x3, and the rise of America’s Best Dance Crew with crews like Quest Crew left a lasting impression. It was Quest Crew’s performance in Party Rock Anthem that fully convinced him to join the breaking scene.

Armed with a BlackBerry phone and endless curiosity, Gideon became a student of the YouTube era—learning moves from online tutorials, memorizing during the day, and practicing in the evenings on a dusty football pitch in Nsangi. For four years, that pitch became his training ground, long before he ever stepped onto a formal battle floor.

Between 2014 and 2015, Gideon began seeking out Uganda’s breaking communities, finding homes in places like Breakdance Project Uganda (BPU) at Sharing Hall in Nsambya and Aya Dance Community in Kawempe. These communities connected him to Uganda’s broader street dance network and gave him the platform to grow. From then on, he stepped fully into the battle scene, competing at high-profile events such as:

• Breakfast Jam

• Krump UG Battles

• East Africa’s Got Talent

• Batalo East

• Skillz Dance Africa

• Dance Off Uganda

• 60 Seconds Battle Series

Through these battles, Gideon built not just skill, but a name. He became known across Uganda and East Africa as a resilient competitor and battle cat, inspired by global legends like Moose, Kid David, Taisuke, and Bboy Neguin, whose precision and authenticity helped shape his own style.

As his dance matured, so did his vision. Gideon’s passion extended beyond the cyphers and battle floors—he imagined breaking as a force in fashion, media, teaching, film, and international representation. That vision came to life with his involvement in EONEZ, an original sneaker brand crafted for dancers by dancers. As an Eonez Breaking Star, Gideon represents not just the craft of breaking, but the culture and business of it—blending style, innovation, and performance.

From Nsangi’s dirt pitches to East Africa’s biggest dance stages and now into the world of product design and cultural entrepreneurship, Gideon SlowMo stands as a symbol of what’s possible when passion meets purpose.
