From the Floor to the Streets: How Breaking, Legacy & Culture Gave Birth to EONEZ

Growing up in the vibrant, sometimes chaotic Kampala division of Kawempe, Uganda, my first stage was the dust-covered pavement outside our home. It was there that I first moved—not just with my feet, but with purpose. My earliest memories of dance are rooted in the encouragement of my sister, who saw something in me long before I did. She was the first to push me to move, to express, to let my body say what words couldn’t. That spark, ignited in the heart of our neighborhood, would evolve into a lifelong journey rooted in passion, culture, and movement.

But it wasn’t just dance—it was Hip Hop that shaped my path. I still remember the day my friend Smogone handed me a book that would shift everything: The Gospel of Hip Hop by KRS-One. It wasn’t just literature—it was scripture. It opened my eyes to what Hip Hop truly was: a way of life, a global culture with values of peace, love, unity, and having fun. Smogone didn’t just give me books; he gave me a worldview. One where dance wasn’t just entertainment, it was resistance, healing, expression, and legacy.

As I became more active in Uganda’s underground scene, I earned recognition not only for my unique style of breaking, but also for a comic character I’d channel during battles—lighthearted yet fierce. This mix of humor and heat became my identity on the floor. But my ambitions were always deeper than the applause of the circle. I began asking: What else can I build from this culture that gave me so much?

That question led to the creation of Skillz Dance Fest—an annual celebration of movement, youth power, and artistic excellence. It wasn’t just a festival; it was a declaration that our stories matter. That African street dancers could host their own international platform. That we didn’t have to wait to be invited—we could build the stage.

Now, that same drive has taken form once again—this time, on our feet.

Introducing EONEZ: Run the Streets, Write Your Story

EONEZ is not just a sneaker. It’s a movement. A tribute to the streets that raised me. A canvas for the culture that shaped me.

The name EONEZ stands for:

• Empowering Others

• Navigating Every Zone

It represents the journey of every hustler, every dreamer, every artist whose path wasn’t paved but carved from struggle, sweat, and style. With EONEZ, I wanted to create more than footwear—I wanted to design legacy. Footwear that could speak to dancers, street athletes, and creatives navigating the concrete jungles of Kampala and beyond.

EONEZ is built for movement—both physical and cultural. It tells the story of transformation: from a young kid in Kawempe moved by his sister’s encouragement, to an artist shaped by friendship, faith, and the global elements of Hip Hop. From battling in dusty circles to directing stages. From writing dreams in journals to etching them into the soles of sneakers.

Why This Matters

In Africa, street culture has often been undervalued, misrepresented, or ignored. But we know better. We know the streets teach resilience. They teach rhythm. They teach resistance. That’s why with every EONEZ drop, we’re not just launching products—we’re activating narratives, local production, and ownership of our own stories.

We’re building not just a brand—but a culture of legacy.

Final Word

My story is just one of many. And EONEZ is for every dancer, every young creative from the corners of Kawempe to the streets of Nairobi, Lagos, or Johannesburg, who dares to turn movement into meaning.

EONEZ is for you.

Run the Streets. Write Your Story
